My Approach

“ The wound is the place where the light enters you. ”

At Grounded Presence Counselling, I will support you in navigating and overcoming challenges and moving towards meaningful change.
My approach to therapy is grounded in compassion, acceptance and support, allowing you to show up as you are as we co-create a healing journey towards a greater sense of inner balance and well-being.
Once we establish connection, trust and a sense of safety, deeper healing occurs as we identify the patterns you may have developed to cope with adverse situations throughout your life. These might have served you in the past, but now interfere with moving forward. By exploring their impact on your life today and deepening your awareness, we can foster resilience and develop new ways of responding to life’s situations.

I use an integrative approach to therapy, working with the whole person – mind, body, emotions and soul, as these do not exist in isolation. I believe this holistic approach brings comprehensive healing and long-lasting change.
By recognising your uniqueness, I tailor my approach to suit your specific needs and circumstances. The therapy is not just about symptom relief, it is about fostering a sense of self, healing the relational wounds and conflicts, and resolving unfinished business from your past through a safe and caring therapeutic relationship.

I draw from the following therapeutic approaches:

Gestalt Therapy

Gestalt Therapy emphasises present-centredness and wholeness. The process helps to deepen awareness and gain emotional freedom and connectedness by exploring patterns that once served us but which now constrain us, and integrating fragmented, often contradictory parts of ourselves into a cohesive whole. It values the therapeutic relationship as a crucial aspect of healing our relational wounds.

Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing is a powerful body-oriented approach to healing symptoms of trauma and stress disorders, recognising that trauma is not just stored in the mind, but also in the body. Interventions release trapped energy, tension and stress in our bodies, enhancing self-regulation and emotional resilience. This is particularly helpful for managing PTSD, complex trauma, anxiety, panic disorders, chronic pain and stress-related physical symptoms.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic Therapy explores how our early relationships, attachments and past experiences shape our current behaviours and relationships. This process helps address inner conflicts and unresolved issues, paving the way for the development of healthier coping mechanisms and more fulfilling relationships. By addressing underlying causes rather than just symptoms, it fosters lasting and meaningful changes, moving beyond temporary symptom relief.

Systemic Family Constellations

Systemic Family Constellations addresses how unresolved family traumas and conflicts can be passed down through generations, affecting our emotional and psychological well-being. It helps to identify our roles within the family system, release burdens from past generations and develop healthier relationship patterns.

In my work, I also draw on Attachment Theory, Polyvagal Theory, Inner Child Work, and Mindfulness-based techniques.
